I am passionate about helping people improve their health and well-being and regain a sense of hope. Because I believe the mental, physical, and spiritual bodies are intrinsically connected, my work incorporates mind/body techniques to treat the whole person. It is informed by my extensive training in treating anxiety, which includes mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), biofeedback, and self-compassion practices. While much of my experience as a therapist involves reducing anxiety generally, my work has increasingly focused on improving sleep. Through the powerful CBT-I protocol, my clients experience not only better sleep performance, but also decreased anxiety, improved mood, and increased energy overall.
My work treating anxiety is bolstered by two passions of mine: yoga and biofeedback. A certified yoga instructor, I employ my yoga training to inform nervous system regulation and mindfulness practices. Biofeedback uses sensor devices to alleviate anxiety, chronic pain, migraine headaches, and other conditions by increasing awareness of physiological functions. It can easily be done through telehealth. With Board Certification in Biofeedback (BCB) through the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA), I specialize in training heart rate variability (HRV) to enhance nervous-system regulation. HRV – the variability between successive heartbeats — is increasingly seen as an important measure of overall well-being, and some of my clients choose to dive deeper into HRV by wearing a simple wrist strap that pairs with an app to guide us in making physiological improvements that impact emotional health.
With the focused, strategic interventions I provide, my clients typically get quick results — and while the work is brief, the impact is often long-term.
I earned master’s degrees in counseling and theology from Regent University and a bachelor’s degree in health administration from Roberts Wesleyan University. In addition to private practice, my experience includes inpatient psychiatric facilities, in-home family counseling services, and the US military as a counselor for soldiers’ children and families both stateside and abroad.
